10 Pictures Of Calcutta That Will Make You Nostalgic

Calcutta is probably the best city to go to if one wants to live out some Indian History. Here are ten pictures of the city beginning from when it was the British Capital of India, right up to the 1950s.

    1.  Buses parked at Howrah Bridge in the 1950's. If only we could still spot such vintage buses!

    2. Imagine a road in Calcutta, so peaceful that you could go take a nap on it. Here is reality from the 1950s.

    3. In the 60s, a regular street scene would have people making conversations, sitting in a corner or just taking a walk. Today, space constraints have taken over all of that.

    6. Eden Gardens in 1870 and even later was one of the most alluring sights of Calcutta. Sadly, its maintenance was neglected for many years and it looks quite shabby now.

    7. The oxcart trudge at Howrah Bridge gives a perfect sense of rustic India. It was used to transport goods in the 1950s. If you are lucky, you might still spot them in smaller towns.

    10. Writers Building has multiple myths associated with it. Some rooms are believed to be spooky! This picture was clicked in the 1870s when it was home to junior servants (clerical and administrative staff).
